In the next part of the review, we'll examine some of the key features and how they compare to other sleeping pads.

Key Features of the Klymit Static V2

When it comes to choosing a great pad for sleeping on during backpacking and camping adventures, there are a few key features to take into consideration. You'll need to assess the insulation, comfort, and ease of use that the sleeping pad provides, as well as how the size, weight, and construction stack up against other sleeping pads out there. Another important consideration is —of course— price.

Let's take a look at those key features.

Insulation

When it comes to sleeping pads, insulation is one of the most important factors to consider when deciding which model to purchase. To determine insulation we need to look at the R-value rating. R-Value is the measurement used to determine the pad's insulation ability.

What is a good R value for a sleeping pad?

The higher the R-Value, the warmer you can expect to be on chilly nights. R-value measures the sleeping pad's capacity to resist heat flow, and the scale goes from 1-11+. Usually, the thicker the pad, the higher the it is.

The Static V2 sleeping pad offers an R-value of 1.3. This is pretty low on the scale, so it's safe to say that this sleeping pad isn't the best choice for camping in colder seasons. If you spend a lot of time winter camping, then we recommend opting for a higher rated product. However, its low R-value is reconciled by its convenient packing size and portability, making it ideal for backpacking adventures and summer camping trips.

That being said, this Klymit Static V2 sleeping mat features deep weld patterning and V-shaped baffles which prevent air from circulating throughout the pad, improving insulation. The deep welded seams and baffles prevent heat from your body from dissipating down through the pad. The v-shaped baffles are particularly effective at keep side-sleepers warm, as they prevent the shoulder or hip from touching the ground, helping the body retain more heat.

The Klymit Static V2 sleeping pad is an ideal lightweight sleeping pad for warm weather conditions and isn't recommended for winter camping. If you're looking for a sleeping pad for cold-season camping, we recommend looking for a model that offers a higher R-value.

You might be interested to know that Klymit also offers an insulated sleeping pad version of this model: the Static V Lite. This is more suited to all-weather camping and provides more warmth than the Static V2.

Construction

The construction and design of the Static V 2 are key features that make it stand out from other Klymit models or sleeping pads from other brands such as Therm-a-Rest.

The bottom of the mat is made from durable 75D polyester material and a lighter 30D polyester top layer. By cleverly using a thicker fabric for the polyester bottom of the pad and a lighter one for the top, Klymit has struck the perfect balance between weight and durability.

The bottom of the sleeping pad is more likely to encounter materials that can puncture it. So, it only makes sense to ensure the bottom material is tough and puncture-resistant. The 75D polyester fabric does just that by providing a tough barrier against sticks, stones, and other sharp objects. That being said, the fabric remains lightweight and easy to pack down into a stuff sack and carry on a backpacking adventure.

The innovative design utilizes patented body mapping technology that truly sets it apart from other sleeping pads on the market. Although initially, it might look as though laying on the Static V2 would result in your elbows and hips touching the ground due to its weight and size, this isn't the case. In fact, body mapping technology results in a more even spread of weight across the pad. So whether you're sleeping on the grass, snow, or rocky ground; the Static V2 guarantees a good night's sleep.

The body mapping technology with v-shaped baffles provides exceptional comfort and stability for sleepers prone to tossing and turning during the night. What's more, it guarantees comfort whether you're a side sleeper, stomach sleeper, or back sleeper by targeting your body's pressure points.

The v-shaped baffles and side rails cradle your body, which prevents your sleeping bag from slipping around during the night and provides increased insulation and comfort. All in all, the innovative approach to material and design makes the Static V2 one of the most comfortable and durable sleeping pads out there.

Another feature of this sleeping pad is that it features antimicrobial laminating on the interior of the pad. This prevents mold, fungus, and bacterial growth from occurring meaning it'll be with you for years to come.

Like many other reviews, we give this sleeping pad 5 stars for construction!

Comfort

the V pattern prevents excessive airflow as you shift around during the night, keeping the uncomfortable bouncy feeling to a minimum

If you're looking for a sleeping mat that provides a comfortable sleeping experience while remaining light in weight and easy to carry, then the Klymit Static V2 might be just what you're looking for.

The main features that contribute to the optimal comfort of the V2 Static are the V-shaped design and dynamic side rails. The V-shape arrangement of baffles creates a subtle trough down the middle of the mat, which, along with rails along the side, provides a secure and comfortable sleep by centering your body on the pad and preventing air movement as you toss and turn.

What's more, the V pattern prevents excessive airflow as you shift around during the night, which keeps the uncomfortable bouncy feeling to a minimum. How? Air is channeled between each V via small connections instead of there being a large unified air chamber.

Another factor that adds to the exceptional comfort of the Klymit Static V2 is the fact that it's wider than most other sleep pads on the market, particularly compared to other products of similar weight. For this reason, the Klymit Static V2 offers an ideal balance between comfort and weight that cradle you to sleep.

Although it's not the thickest sleeping pad in the world, the Klymit V2 retains exceptional comfort levels without compromising on weight. This means you can enjoy a great sleep without lugging around a heavy sleeping bag throughout the day. Instead, you'll wake up well-rested and ready for the day ahead.

Size and Weight

The size of the Static V2 make it the best backpacking sleeping pad type for minimalist backpackers looking to travel ultra-light. (2)

Before the Static V2, Klymit already proved themselves a leader in the field of lightweight outdoor gear with the Static V model. The V2 takes it up a notch.

When it comes to weight and size, the Klymit Static V2 is definitely a winner. Weighing it at just 16.55oz (barely a pound!) with a stuff sack and patch kit included, you'll be hard-pressed to find a lighter sleeping pad that offers the same comfort and durability as the Static V2.

Weight is one of the most important factors to consider when investing in a sleeping pad. Every once of weight matters when you're carrying it around on your back all day! If you're embarking on a backpacking adventure, you've already got to account for clothes, food, sleeping bags, and any other necessary gear. The last thing you want to add to the load is a hefty sleeping pad!

How does the Klymit Static V2 sleeping pad weigh so little and offer so much? It's all down to the ultralight 30D polyester fabric top layer of the mat and the fact that it's designed to be used in warmer weather conditions. What's more, it packs down to the size of a soda can - making it one of the most compact inflatable sleeping pads on the market.

The weight and packed size of the Static V2 make it the best backpacking sleeping pad type for minimalist backpackers looking to travel ultra-light.

Ease of Use

After a long day of backpacking, hiking, and exploring the great outdoors - the last thing you want to do is spend half an hour blowing up an inflatable mattress. Klymit understood this frustration and decided to make life a whole lot easier for tired backpackers.

How Do You Inflate Klymit Sleeping Pads?

Like its predecessor version the Static V, the Static V2 is much easier to use than other sleeping pads on the market. One of its standout features is its new inflation valve located at the top of the pad, which is much sturdier and discreet than classic valve styles. That being said, it remains wide enough to enable easy inflation. In fact, the Static V2 can be fully inflated with 10-15 breaths in less than 2 minutes!

Deflating the Kymit Static V2 sleeping pad takes a little more effort than inflating it. The channels that connect this sleeping pad's baffles are a fantastic feature in that they provide a more comfortable sleep. However, they make rolling the air out of the pad a little more difficult.

Klymit static v2 Review - Inflates in 10-15 breaths

This small frustration is compensated by the fact that it rolls up to a small and light weight packed size that can be inflated in just 15 breaths. When it comes time to pack up and move onto your next backpacking destination, simply roll the Static V2 up, pack it down, and pop it in your backpack pocket for easy carrying.

Price

When it comes to price, you won't find a better value for money sleeping pad than the Static V2. If you've been in the market for sleeping pads for a while now, you've probably realized that many products come with pretty hefty price tags. Compared to other, more comprehensive items from Klymit or other providers like Therm-a-Rest, this Static V2 offers great value for money.

Unlike other, more expensive lightweight sleeping pads - the Static V2 offers a diverse range of extra features that make it stand out among competitors in the same price range.

If you don't have a large budget to spend on a lightweight pad —but don't want to compromise on the sleep quality it provides— the Static V2 offers a low price point, durability, and a quality design that's guaranteed to keep you sleeping soundly throughout the night.

Final Thoughts

When it comes time to decide whether or not the Klymit Static V2 sleeping pad is right for you, it all depends on the kind of camping you plan on doing.

If you're looking for a lightweight, comfortable, and reliable sleeping pad to take on backpacking adventures, then the Static V2 is the best sleeping pad for you. Perfect for summer camping trips, the Static V2 offers everything you expect from a great sleeping pad while remaining lightweight and affordable.

The ease of inflation and extreme comfort provided by Klymit's patented body mapping technology makes this sleeping pad essential for any seasoned backpacker. That being said, if you're planning to embark on winter camping escapades then this sleeping pad won't provide you with the insulation you need. The low R-value of 1.3 means that the Static V2 isn't designed for colder climates; so we'd recommend investing in another Klymit or Therm-a-Rest model designed for use during all seasons.

So is the Klymit Static V2 the right choice for you? We hope this review has provided you with the knowledge you need to make an informed decision about this version of Klymit's Static sleeping pad range.

We'll leave you with some final words of wisdom: If you're searching for a quality sleeping pad with an affordable price tag for your next summer backpacking adventure - then the Static V2 will do just the trick.
